Over the last two months, the world has been faced with an unexpected challenge, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Those businesses that focus on the light of the tunnel and continue to push forward will be the ones most successful at the end of all of this.

Businesses have been significantly impacted by the Coronavirus. Social distancing guidelines and stay-at-home orders have been set in place by the CDC and local governments, leaving businesses no other choice than to shut their doors. Most businesses are closed temporarily, but quite a few businesses have been forced to shut their doors permanently with the dramatic drop in revenue.

While there are many challenges business owners are facing, there is a unique opportunity for businesses. This is the time to focus on progression. Businesses need support and communication, and digital marketing has the potential to pull businesses through this tough time.

If you’re like most business owners right now, you’re probably searching for ways to make it through as American’s cut back on cost. However, we highly recommend not cutting all of your costs and focusing on the light of the tunnel so you can come back stronger than ever.

The Facts Behind Cutting Less During Down Times To Gain More In Better Times

As a small business ourselves, we understand how hard things are right now, especially with so much unknown. But truth be told, this is a small interruption for your business. One day soon, the doors will open again, and when that happens, you need to be prepared to hit the ground running.

So how do you do this? Digital marketing!

But wait, we know what you’re thinking: Spend more on marketing during these tough times?

YES! Hear us out here.

Harvard Business Review study of 4,700 public companies analyzed three years before, during, and after a recession. The study found that the percentage of companies that outperformed their competition: 21 percent for businesses that opted for a prevention focus (these folks cut more costs) and 37 percent for a more progressive focus. The study goes on to show that those who cut costs faster were not nearly as successful as those who focused on progression. Those who cut costs also had the lowest profitability once things got better.

With this being said, small business owners must acknowledge the fact that there will be a “new normal.” As people go back to work, things will be a bit different, which means you will have to alter your marketing plans for 2020. Here are some things to consider:

Social Media Is An Important Element of Connecting With Customers

Chances are, you’re already on social media. If you’re not, now is the time to get on social media, and if you already are, it’s time to alter your social media strategy. The thing is, social media is a bit sensitive. While social media can still be used to drive revenue, you don’t want to come off too salesy or pushy, and you also want to show empathy to your customers during this tough time. With the right social media strategy, you can continue to build strong relationships with customers building your brand.

Add A Kick to Your SEO Strategy

With so many people at home, people are online right now more than ever. Search traffic has drastically increased since the stay at home orders were put into place, and there’s no signs of search traffic slowing down any time soon. Once the stay at home orders are lifted, are people really going to want to rush into stores to be surrounded by people? Probably not.

Can your business be found online with a simple search? If not, it is time to focus on your SEO strategy so your business can be easily found. Even with people at home, consumers still order what they need. Make the most out of these tough times and focus on the consumers that shop online.

Get Ahead of The Competition

As you may know, it’s a competitive world out there when it comes to business – especially online. Some businesses are pumping the breaks on their marketing plans for 2020 but now’s not the time to pump the breaks, it’s time to put the pedal to the metal so you can hit the ground running!

SEO helps your business drive more organic traffic to your website so you can get ahead of your competition. A good SEO strategy is what will get your business on the front page of Google’s search results. With time and effort towards your SEO strategy, your business will not only make it to the first page of search engine results but the number one spot! So, for instance, say you own a pizza restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. When someone searches in Google for ‘Pizza restaurants in Atlanta, Georgia,’ your business will be the first to come up!

Focus on Creating Tons of Quality Content

Content is important for several reasons. High-quality content on your website will help you rank for keywords so you can make it to the top of the list on search engine results. High-quality content also shows consumers that you are a reputable business and an expert in the industry that you are in. Ultimately, high-quality content will help to drive traffic as it can be used to market your products, drive traffic to your website, and attract new customers.

So, what kind of content are we talking about? All kinds of content! There should be plenty of content on your website. You should also continue to add content to your site so that you continuously rank for keywords. Creating blogs is a great way to boost SEO efforts and attract new customers. And of course, social media content is important too.
